Qualifying for Grants

There are a number of energy efficiency criteria that you must undertake before being deemed eligible to apply for a grant under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. These measures ensure you are already minimising your energy requirements and are as follows:

• You must have the minimum of 270 mm of loft insulation required to meet current building regulations where practicable
• You must have installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)
• You must be using low energy light bulbs in all the main light fittings in all the main rooms (i.e. the kitchen, hallway and all main living rooms) in the property
• You must have installed basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer

Grant Funding in England and Wales

The following grants are available as of 29th May 2007:

• Solar Photovoltaics - Maximum of £2,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 50% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower
• Wind Turbines - Maximum of £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower
• Small Hydro - Maximum of £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower
• Solar Thermal Hot Water - Overall maximum of £400 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs whichever is the lower
• Heat Pumps - Overall maximum of £1,200 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs whichever is the lower
• Automated Wood Pellet Heaters/Stoves - Overall maximum of £600 or 20% of the relevant eligible costs whichever is the lower
• Wood Fuelled Boiler Systems - Overall maximum of £1,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs whichever is the lower
